SpendSense is built with a privacy-first architecture. All your shopping lists, item details, monthly budgets, and spending metrics are stored locally on your device. We do not operate external databases, run analytics servers, or sell your personal data.
100% Local Storage
All scanned grocery items, category structures, receipt logs, and monthly spending profiles are saved completely inside your device's isolated application storage. No external hosting holds your data.
Gemini Chat AI Safety
Conversations with the AI budget assistant are kept offline on your device. Chat payloads are sent securely to Google Gemini APIs only when submitting queries and are never logged or stored by us.
On-Device Receipt Scanning
Invoice text reading is processed on-device. The text matches are temporarily formatted via Google Gemini APIs to populate your lists. Captured receipt images are deleted immediately after scanning.
Data Backup & Ownership
You maintain complete ownership of your historical metrics. You can export a JSON backup file to your own storage at any time and import it to restore your profile on a new device.
Secure Local API Keys
Your personal Google Gemini API Key is stored inside encrypted local AsyncStorage. It is used solely for querying Gemini services straight from your device and is never uploaded.
Complete Reset Control
You have the right to be forgotten. You can completely erase all scanned receipts, budget history, custom categories, location tags, and AI insights from your device instantly at any time.
Information Collection & Use
We do not collect any Personally Identifiable Information (PII) or financial details as a core service. We request permissions on your device solely for local capabilities and user control:
- Camera: Used to capture receipts for instant receipt text reading.
- Location: Used locally to detect country and city contexts for location-relevant grocery tips. This is foreground-only and never used in the background.
- Microphone: Used only if you choose to record voice notes for AI-assisted entry. Audio is processed temporarily and is not stored by us.
- Notifications & Reminders: Used to schedule local daily spending reminders and bill payment alerts natively on your device via Android AlarmManager/WorkManager. No remote push servers are used, and no notification data leaves your device.
- Photos / Media: Used only if you choose to save a scanned receipt image to your device gallery.
- Advertising IDs / Device Identifiers: Used by Google AdMob for ad delivery and measurement. This is handled by the third-party ad SDK.
Third-Party Services
To provide advanced assistant features and display advertisement support, the app integrates the following third-party libraries:
- Google AdMob: Integrated for ad banner display. Google AdMob may collect device identifiers and location data for ad delivery and measurement.
- Google Gemini API: Integrated to format parsed invoices and power the AI budget assistant. Google Gemini handles query data according to their service terms and safety frameworks.
How You Can Control Your Data
You can delete your local app data at any time by resetting the app from the device settings, uninstalling the app, or clearing app storage. Any saved receipt scans, budgets, lists, and AI history stored on your device remain under your control.
Children's Privacy
SpendSense does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children.
